Who Are DoorDash?

DoorDash is an online delivery service available in over 4,000 cities across the U.S., Canada, and Australia.

They connect restaurants that do not have a delivery system in place to their customers using delivery drivers (Dashers).

Customers need to log on to the DoorDash website, place their order, and wait for delivery.

One great thing about DoorDash is customers can schedule their orders up to four days in advance.

How Does DoorDash Work?

As with most food delivery services, DoorDash's customers can order from a wide range of restaurants in the Dasher app.

When the customer places an order, it automatically shows up in the Dasher Driver app; the driver can then decide if they want to accept or reject that delivery.

If the driver accepts the order, they then pick it up and deliver it to the customer in their specified location.

DoorDash has made the ordering process simple for its customers. The app allows them to place and pay for their order within the app, which means drivers do not have to handle cash.

DoorDash Driver Eligibility

To become DoorDash drivers or Dasher, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be at least 18-years-old
  • Have a car, scooter or bike (in select cities)
  • You will need to provide your driver's license number
  • Provide your social security number (In the U.S)

Owning a car is not a requirement in all cities, but a valid driver's license, insurance, and having a clean driving record are essential.

The final eligibility requirement is to consent to a background check. You could be waiting for up to 2 weeks for a job offer.

How much Does DoorDash Pay?

DoorDash is very transparent with drivers pay, on their website they provide details of how they calculate delivery drivers pay, in the coming months, how much you will make as a Dasher will be calculated as follows:

Base Pay + Promotions + Tips = Pay

Dashers Base Pay:

Dasher's base pay ranges from $2 to $10 for every delivery. The actual amount you receive within this range is dependent on the estimated delivery duration, how far you travel while delivering the food, and the desirability of the order.

Your base pay will be higher if the delivery takes a long time to deliver, you have a longer distance to travel, and the order is located in an area that is less popular with dashers.

Dashers Promotions:

Dashers are allowed to increase their pay by earning a promotional amount.

DoorDash promotions will be rolled out in the coming months; they will include a peak day and challenge bonus.

During busy periods, DoorDash delivery drivers will receive an additional amount for each delivery.

We do not know when DoorDash will start paying their drivers this promotional amount, but as soon as we know, we will update this page.

Dashers Tips:

If you work for DoorDash, you will receive 100% of your tips in addition to your base pay. Customers can tip at the checkout, and in the future, they will have the option to tip after delivery.

The tip amount will show in each Dasher's earnings breakdown.

You can also earn additional cash by referring friends or family to become DoorDash Dashers. In some areas, the referral amount paid can be quite significant.
